Postal Queen and her Team do it again
The Punta Gorda Post Office has again, 4th year in a row, sold the most Breast Cancer Research stamps in the nation during the month of October for the USPS Help Stamp Out Breast Cancer campaign. Led by Eileen Dimase, the community rallied for the cause, purchasing almost $55,000 stamps. Says Eileen, “You need to make a difference in people’s lives.” Yes, she does!
Local Stats for October Real Estate
While the market is still hot, October sales eased off 15% from the previous month. The number of homes for sale inventory is still a meager .9 months, lower by 52% than last year in October. Prices are 23% higher YOY. Your Chamber notes that walk-in traffic is up and the top 3 relocation calls were from 1. New York, 2. Pennsylvania, & 3. California. Lifelong Learning is back
FL Gulf Coast University announces that their in-person courses will again be offered, using the Military Heritage Museum and FL SouthWestern State College campuses (as well as venues in Collier & Lee counties). Online courses will still be available. More info: https://www.fgcu.edu/academy/ . One of the many great things about living in this area!
Charlotte County firefighters & EMS Climb to Victory
Members of the Charlotte County Fire & EMS took 1st & 2nd place in the Tunnel to Towers charity event, racing up 41 flights, a testament to to their fitness! The charity supports 3 areas: Gold Star Family Home Program, Fallen First Responder Home Program and the Smart Home Program. 30 members of the squad participated.
Your Penny-Tax at Work
Recently the county commissioners outlined projects completed and under construction funded by the 2014 Penny Tax; from recreation centers to our Punta Gorda Charlotte Library, the widening of Olean Boulevard and multi-use walkways. Projects underway funded by the 2020 Penny Tax are/will include updated fire and police facilities, parks & rec projects, road projects. The Penny Tax funds invest in the safety & quality of life in our community.

CCSO a community partner
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office partners with the community in helping those with addictive disease disorders through their Drug Addiction Recovery Initiative. Sheriff Prummel recently published a letter from a local person who was helped. “I would like to thank your office and officers for helping to save and protect my life.” Kudos CCSO for a job well done!
Tech jobs top 10
The Punta Gorda metro area, which encompasses Charlotte County, recently earned a top-10 ranking in a recent study by FinanceBuzz, listing the best places in Florida for tech jobs. Charlotte County ranked 8th for Florida metro areas in the website’s top-10 tech hubs. The rating is based on job competition, average salary, cost of living, average rating of tech companies, number of available tech jobs, and the strength of our local internet connectivity. Scores were tabulated “without adjusting or factoring in population demographics.”
Publix opens in Babcock Ranch
Babcock Ranch now has their own grocery store & pharmacy in their Crescent B Commons shopping center. Previously shoppers traveled to Fort Myers or Punta Gorda. Other retailers, including Pi Local Pizza, Vet at Babcock, M’xuma Tacos, Burger Fi, U. Yee Sushi, Stellar Vision, Encore Nails, Postal Pack & Ship, & Royal Paw Grooming/Day Care, will open throughout the remainder of 2021.
