Gary E. Duncan is the new Director of Airport Operations/Projects
The Charlotte County Airport Authority (CCAA) announces has hired Mr. Duncan as Director of Airport Operations & Projects. Gary has a strong history of airport leadership and will also assist with air service development and marketing, vendor relations, grants and special projects.
Good news for PGD, "Allegiant Air is Back!"
Allegiant Air recorded a profit of $6.9 million in Q1 2021, a significant milestone for the airline, as most other carriers recorded a loss. They now have 100 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet, planning to end 2021 with 108, which will support a 20% increase in capacity. The passenger load factor (how much of an airline’s passenger carrying capacity is used) in March 2021 was about 34 points lower than 2019 (54%); April’s load factor went up a whopping 10 points!
Local Builder wins prestigious Avid Cup
Congratulations to AR Homes/SandStar Homes, LLC, for winning the 18th Annual Avid Cup! It honors homebuilders throughout North America who have received the highest home buying experience scores from their customers and buyers over the last year, from contract signing through one-year of home ownership. The top builder award, AR Homes/SandStar Homes also won in 2017, 2018, & 2020.
Sun Country Airlines flies to Punta Gorda Airport
Announced April 27, 2021, Sun Country Airlines will begin services from Punta Gorda to Minneapolis, starting Dec. 10, 2021. Flying 2ce weekly, Mondays & Fridays, the airline offers economical flights. They currently offer flights out of Ft. Myers and St. Pete. Visit SUNCOUNTRY.COM
Bayfront Health Port Charlotte uses robotic-arm assisted tech
3 types of knee replacement are being done using the robot arm. Through CT-based 3-D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons create a personalized surgical plan, resulting in more minimally invasive surgeries. 1000 surgeries have now been done at the hospital.
March 2021 Real Estate Setting Records
A record 881 residential sales closed in Charlotte County, March 2021. This is up 40% from 2020. At the same time, inventory is at its lowest, with less than 1 month supply. Median price is 16% higher than March 2020. Almost half of all properties closed sold within 10 days on the market. Charlotte County Schools named District of the Year by Cambridge International Assessment Program
Formed by the University of Cambridge, students who earn the Advanced International Certificate of Education from Cambridge and have 100 community service hours will automatically receive a Bright Futures Academic Scholars Award. BFAC awards grant students 100% of tuition & fees at a Florida University. Our students’ success is our community success!
Welcome to Business in Paradise
The Economic Development Office launched their latest marketing campaign in February 2021 with: “Thrive in Paradise”, targeting entrepreneurs and small businesses in states with less-friendly business climates. Using social media and Google ads, the campaign highlights the benefits of doing business in Charlotte County. Last May 2020, Punta Gorda MSA was ranked a top metropolitan entrepreneurial ecosystem in America by an analysis from thinktank Heartland Forward.
Pickleball Championship Success Wrap-up
Global World Pickleball Championship was held at the PicklePlex of Punta Gorda, Feb. 3-7, 2021. This 2nd year event hosted over 500 athletes competing for a total of $100,000 in prizes. More than 1000 spectators watched throughout the 5-day event. Estimated economic impact to the area: just under $1-million; generated 1,400 room/nights.
Punta Gorda, FL is 44th of 379 "Most Dynamic Metros"
Punta Gorda & Charlotte County small business performance ranks high. SmartAsset, a financial technology company that analyzes data to determine the best counties for young firm, small business owners, ranks Charlotte County 30th of the 67 FL counties. A Heartland Forward study, which analyzed the share of employment by small firms and the number of college-educated employees in those firms, ranked Punta Gorda #7th (Naples #8, Cape Coral #10.)

100 years of Opportunity Celebrated
Throughout the growth of our city, opportunities for Punta Gorda citizens have existed side-by-side. These are depicted in our area’s murals and museums. Join these 2 museums as they depict contributions of African Americans in the settlement and development of the community as well as photos, news clippings and writings that tell the story of our African-American heritage.

Airplane Mechanics School Gearing up
A new ‘industry’ coming to Charlotte County, Airplane Mechanics School received preliminary FCC approval recently for the 18-month program that will target high school seniors in a dual enrollment and also older students. An industry of high job growth, the A&P program (Airframe & Powerplant) students can earn licensing in either or both. Classes will start in Fall 2021.
