Local Real Estate update for May 2021
Home sales were up 88% over May 2020 with 720 homes sold last month. Not too surprising, given that the economy last year was coming out of the shut-down. The median price increase this May YOY of 26% is amazing! Almost 2/3’s of homes in May sold within 10 days, and 50% were cash sales. There is a 6-day supply of homes on the market (absorption rate) in our area. [Thanks to Time Realty Services for this information]
Florida & Texas popular places to move TO
According to a recently published study by North American Van Lines, FL & TX are seeing record numbers of Californians & New Yorkers moving into their states. Other states seeing a moving exodus are NJ, IL, MI & PA. This is affecting our area too, as the Chamber is seeing high numbers of website traffic coming from OH, NY, PA, OR & CA. Welcome!
Thanks for the Memories…
Recently announced, Peace River Distributing has been sold to Suncoast Beverage Sales. Many thanks to the Wenzel family for all their community support over the past 30 years. Their support of local non-profits and area events is well appreciated. We wish Suncoast great success in Charlotte County!
Punta Gorda Airport will remain open
Punta Gorda Airport is helped by a cost-to-benefit analysis completed by the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA has recinded the requirement to raise the main runway by 1-foot during renovation, which would have doubled the cost of the project – and worse, would have meant shutting down the entire airport for months, Airport CEO James Parish said, due to the need to elevate other runways and change all the lighting. Runway 15-33 now complete, renovation of the 1940’s-era Runway 4-22 will start the end of 2021.
Total Wines Opening in Port Charlotte
In the space where Lucky’s Market was to open last year, in the new Port Charlotte Marketplace mall, Total Wine & More will renovate the space and open around mid-September, employing approximately 18. The national retailer has 214 superstores in 26 states, with locations in Ft. Myers, Estero, Naples & Sarasota.
