The Murals of Punta Gorda are one of our cherished treasures!
Established in 1995, the Punta Gorda Historic Mural Society (PGHMS) is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. Their mission is to preserve the rich history of Punta Gorda, through the beauty of mural art. PGHMS has created 31 murals throughout our city, each mural depicts a significant location or event.
Self-Guided Mural Tours are available year-round using the local-based audio app Otocast. This app allows you to see photos of each mural, its location and hear an audio description of the history it depicts right from your mobile device. Simply download the app and click on “Punta Gorda History” to find the murals. Use it as you walk around town and its geo-location mapping will help you find each mural.
By exploring Punta Gorda’s murals, you will learn the local history depicted in each mural, when it was painted, as well as the artist. See if you can find the objects hidden in some of them. You’ll also get an overview of the Mural Society and its process for creating these historic murals.
